THE YEAR 2008
    JANUARY 2008 SUMMARY
    January was the eighth warmest January on record in the past 28 years with a mean temperature of 37.0 °F 
    and a +2.6 °F departure for the month. 
    The precipitation for January was much below average. 
    The highest temperature was 72 °F on the 7th and 8th and the lowest temperature was 10 °F on the 21st 
    which was the lowest in January since 2005 and the coldest since February 6, 2007.  
    The 72 °F maximum was only two degrees from being the warmest temperature in January in the past 28 years! 
    It was the first time since 2002 that we had two 70 °F days in the month.
    This has only happened twice in the past 28 years in 2002 and 2008.
    The January precipitation total was 1.52 inches and was the 2nd driest January in the last 28 years. 
    January was the driest since 1981 which is the record with only 0.52 inches and the precipitation departure 
    was -1.80 inches. 
    January’s cloud cover was still near average for the month.  
    The total snowfall for January was 3.0 inches which was a departure of – 4.6 inches. 
    Snow lay on the ground for 11 days the most in January since 2005 when 13 days were recorded.
    The high wind gust of 37 mph was from the west on the 30th at 1038.
    The maximum barometer reading of 30.85 inches on the 21st was the highest barometric reading 
    recorded in January since January 28, 2005. 
    The lowest barometer reading for the month was only 29.45 on the 30th which was near the average 
    minimum monthly barometer reading for January in the last 28 years.

FEBRUARY
    FEBRUARY 2008 SUMMARY
    February was above average in temperature and precipitation.  
    The February total precipitation was 3.91 inches which made it the fifth wettest February 
    in the past 28 years. 
    Two days had more than one inch of precipitation on the first and thirteenth and both were 
    precipitation records for the date. 
    The month had ten days with measurable precipitation and a precipitation departure of 
    +0.93 inches.
    The mean monthly temperature for February was 38.5 °F which was the highest since 2002 
    making it the twelfth warmest February in the past 28 years with a +1.3 °F departure in temperature.
    The maximum temperature for the month was 73 °F on the 18th the highest in February 
    since 2002 and the warmest February day since February 25th 2000. 
    Only five times in the past 28 years has February had a higher maximum temperature. 
    February had 20 days with the temperature at or below freezing with 19 days being the 
    average and 26 being the record. 
    February had only 2 days that the temperature never went above freezing with 2.7 days 
    being the average and 9 being the record set in 1996. 
    The lowest minimum in February was 14 °F which was recorded on the 11th and the highest 
    minimum in February was 56 °F on the 6th which was the third highest in the past 28 years 
    and the record is 60 °F.  
    The 36 °F temperature range on February the 18th was the highest in February since 1999 
    when 37 °F was recorded; the maximum for the 28 year period is 39 °F.  
    Also the 60.4 °F dew point recorded on the 6th at 2254 was the highest ever recorded in 
    the month of February. (Records since 2003) 
    February had only 0.6 inches of snow the least since 2004 when 0.1 inches was recorded. 
    Only six of the past 28 Februarys have had less.
    February was also the cloudiest February since 2003.
    The maximum gust of 44 mph from the WNW on the 10th at 1548 was associated with a cold front. 
    The maximum barometric pressure was 30.54 inches on the 29th the highest in February since
    2005 and the lowest pressure was 29.32 inches on the 26th.

    This was the 13th driest winter in the past 28 years. 8.93 inches total seasonal precipitation, the average is 9.46 inches Departure of -0.53 inches 2002-03 Maximum is 15.74 inches (28-Years of Data) 2001-02 Minimum is 3.63 inches This was the 10th warmest winter in the past 28 years. 38.2 °F seasonal mean temperature, the average is 36.5 ° Departure of + 1.7 ° F 2001-02 Maximum is 41.8 °F (28-Years of Data) 1993-94 Minimum is 31.7 °F This was the 7th least snowfall DEC.-FEB. past 28 years. Total snowfall was 7.6 inches the least since 2001-02 The average is 17.5 inches; the max. is 48.8 inches in 1995-96.
MARCH
    MARCH 2008 SUMMARY
    
    March was much warmer with near average precipitation but 56% of the month’s precipitation 
    occurred on the 4th and 5th.  
    The 2.31 inches of precipitation that occurred in this 24 hour period was the greatest on record for March
    since 24 hour precipitation records were started in 1997; the previous record was 2.29 inches in 2003. 
    The March total precipitation was 4.11 inches which was the 15th driest March on record in the last 28 
    years with a departure of only - 0.05 inches. 
    On March 4th between 2215 and 2315 a very intense rainfall occurred for March of 1.21 inches in one hour. 
    The old 17-year record was only 0.86 inches in 1998 (Records since 1991). 
    Between 2240 and 2245 a new five minute rainfall record was also set of 0.27 inches. 
    The old 17-year record was 0.19 inches set in 2005 (Records since 1991).
    The average March mean temperature was 47.3 °F a departure of only + 2.3 °F but was the 4th highest 
    in the past 28 years. (Three other years were near this year’s average.) 
    The highest temperature was 74 °F on the 28th and the lowest temperature was only 26 °F on the 9th. 
    This 26 °F reading was the second highest March monthly minimum temperature on record in the 
    past 28 years.  
    Only March of 1997 had a higher March minimum temperature of 27 °F.  
    The lowest maximum reading for March was 46 °F on the 9th; the previous 28 year record was only 
    42 °F set in 2000.  
    Also the lowest daily mean temperature was only 36 °F which was a new 28-year record; the old record 
    was 34 °F in 2006. 
    Only 11 days were freezing or below which was the least since 2002 and only 6 of the past 28 years 
    have had less.  
    The average total snowfall for March is 2.8 inches and not even a trace of snow occurred this March for 
    the first time since 2002. 
    A trace was recorded in 2004.  
    It is only the third time in the past 28 years that not even a trace of snow was recorded in the month. 
    This was a very poor year for snow lovers the total snow for the winter was only 7.6 inches.
    The minimum barometric pressure this month was 29.26 inches on the 8th which was the lowest
    pressure recorded in March since 2005 when 29.16 inches was recorded.
    The maximum wind gust was 39 mph from the west on the 20th at 0222 hours.  
    March 20th with a wind run of 191.7 miles was the windiest day since April 16, 2007.

APRIL
    APRIL 2008 SUMMARY
    April was +2.6 °F warmer than average and +1.99 inches above average in precipitation or the second 
    wettest April in the past 28 years and the wettest April since 1983 when the record of 8.65 inches occurred. 
    April’s mean monthly temperature was 58.07 °F and was the fifth warmest in the last 28 years.
    The lowest April minimum temperature was 35 °F which was the highest monthly minimum 
    since 1999 when the April minimum was only 38 °F. 
    This is only the sixth time in the past 28 years that the minimum temperature stayed above the 
    freezing mark for April.
    April had 14 days with measurable precipitation which ties the 28-year record for the most 
    precipitation days in April. 
    On April 20th and 21st 3.07 inches or 55% of the month’s rainfall occurred of which 2.59 inches of 
    this rainfall fell in a 24 hour period which also set the April record for a 24-hour period. 
    The previous April record was on April 14th and 15th 2007 when 2.57 inches occurred in 24 hours. 
    (Records since June 1996)  
    It was also the third cloudiest April on record in the past 28 years.
    The highest temperature range for the month was 42 °F a new April record on the 18th from a 
    low of 47 °F to a high of 89 °F. 
    This is also the highest daily temperature range recorded since January 19, 1996 when 44 °F 
    was recorded; that is the 28-year record for this station for any month.  
    The total frozen precipitation for April was only a trace from a little sleet mixed with rain on April 3rd. 
    The maximum wind gust of 33 mph from the south was recorded on the 11th at 2217 hours.

    The maximum temperature today was 77 °F, a new 28 year HIGH maximum temperature record for the date; the old record was 76 °F in 1998.

    The precipitation total today was 0.71 inches, a new 28 year MAXIMUM precipitation record for the date; the old record was 0.49 inches in 2006.
    Also for the first time in the past 28 years a trace of frozen precipitation was recorded as sleet between 1610-1745 hours.

MAY
    MAY 2008 SUMMARY
     May was the wettest May on record in the last 28 years and was below average in  temperature.
     May's lowest maximum temperature was only 50 °F on May 12th which was the LOWEST monthly 
    maximum every recorded for May; the previous record was 51 °F in 1995, 1996, 2003.  
    The old record low maximum temperature records were set 5-2-1995, 5-7-1996, 5-19-2003.  
    May 12th was a record cold day for May with a daily mean temperature of only 47°F, only May of 
    1989 was lower by only 0.5 °F.  
    The mean temperature for the May was 64.0 °F which was a  - 0.8 °F departure for the month.
    The May rainfall 9.90 inches, a +5.77 inch departure, and the previous wettest was 1989 when 
    9.38 inches was recorded.   
    The 3.51 inches of precipitation in a 24-hour period that fell on the 11th and 12th set a new 
    24-hour record for May.  (Records since 1997)  
    The 2.33 inches in a calendar day on the 12th was also the third greatest for the month of May in 
    the past 28 years.
    May's average temperature range was 24.0 °F and was + 3.0 °F above the average for the last 
    28 years and set a new record by 0.4 °F.  
    This result may be due to the thermometer no longer aspirating after May 4th in preparation for 
    the upcoming move.
          The maximum gust of 33 mph from the north on the 21st at 1803 and 33 mph from the NNE 
    on the 22nd at 1043 were the strongest wind gusts recorded for May.  
    The minimum barometer of 29.30 inches on May 12th was the lowest for May since 1984 when 
    29.28 inches was recorded. 
    The 12th was also the date of the lowest monthly maximum temperature for May.  
    The highest barometric pressure for May was only 30.25 inches on the 28th which was the 
    lowest May monthly maximum since 2001 when 30.16 inches was recorded. 
    Pea size hail recorded in the thunderstorm of May 31st.
