January
  • January was wet and average in temperature but had a split personality.
  • The first half of the month was warm and the second half was cold.
  • The 64mph wind recorded on January 13th at 1356 was a new maximum wind gust record at this station. (records for 20 years)
  • January had the greatest snowfall total 17.3 inches of any month since January 1996.
  • The January 25th snow of 10.8 inches was most in any one storm since January 7, 1996

February
  • FEBRUARY WAS WARMER AND DRIER THAN AVERAGE...
  • February had little frozen precipitation with a departure of - 5.0 inches.
  • The mean temperature for February was 40.9° or a +3.5° departure for the month.
  • The total precipitation was 2.24 inches or a - 0.78 departure for February.
  • Even with the above average temperatures we had at least a trace of snow in the back yard for 20 days.
  • This station had 13 days with the temperature of 55° or warmer and the minimum for February was only 20° which is +7° departure from the average.
  • February 25, 2000 The 79° maximum temperature today was only 3° from the highest temperature ever recorded in February at this station in the last 20 years!! The record is 81° set in 1985.
  • February 25, 2000 was also the highest temperature since September 14,1999!
  • The average daily temperature range was 18.4°F which was the most for February since 1991 probabaly due to the snow cover for more than one-half of February.
  • On February 27th a thundershower dropped the most rain in February in 1 hour (0.73 inches) and in 5 minutes (0.22 inches) since these records were started in 1991.
  • February had no severe storms thus the lowest barometer reading for February was 29.61 inches the highest minimum barometer reading for February since 1989.
March
  • MARCH WAS A RECORD FOR WARMTH BUT NEAR AVERAGE ON THE AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION
  • The average maximum, minimum and mean temperatures for March were all 20 year record highs -- The mean temperature departure was +5.9°
  • The previous record mean temperature for March was 48.87° in 1990 and this March exceeded the RECORD mean temperature by +1.6°
  • March 8, 2000 the maximum temperature was 84° which was the highest ever recorded here for so EARLY in March.
  • There were 8 days that the temperature in March equalled or exceeded 70° which hasn't occurred since 1989.
  • The highest minimum temperature of 57° was the warmest for March since 1991.
  • The average ground temperature set a new record high 47.4° for March.
  • The 2.02 inches of rain that fell on the 21st was the most in 24 hrs. in March since 1995.
  • The 17% relative humidity of March 5th was the lowest relative humidity record in March since 1995 when it was 16%.
  • March 3, 2000 The west wind gusted to 44 mph during the evening at 1915.
  • March 8, 2000 The maximum temperature was 84° which was +10° above the old record for the date which was 74°(Twenty years of records at this station)
  • March 9, 2000 The minimum temperature was 56.8° which was the highest minimum for 2000 so far. The maximum today was 78° which was a new record high for the date here. (Twenty years of records at this station)
  • March 21, 2000 Total rain was 2.02 inches which was the most in one day since September 16, 1999. Three day total (March 20,21,22) was 2.17 inches.
  • March 28, 2000 Min. Barometer today 29.31 inches the lowest since 11-2-99 when it was also 29.31 inches.
April
  • This was the cloudiest April in over 14 years.(Sky cover records at this station since 1986)
  • It was also the wettest since 1990 when the same amount of rain was recorded.
  • The 5.58 inches was +2.17 inches above the average with measurable rain on 13 days which is the most days with rain in April since 1990.
  • The 2.20 inches of rain on the 17th was the most rain in one April day since 1983. The Rain started at 0323 in a thunderstorm and by 0800 1.05 inches was recorded. Rain or drizzle continued most of the day and by 2400 a total of 2.20 inches had fallen. The maximum rainfall rate was 0.50 inches in one hour and 0.17 inches in a five minutes. This was the most rain to fall in a calendar day since September 16,1999 when 3.65 inches was recorded.
  • The 1.0 inches of snow on the 9th was the most on record here for the month of April ( 20 years of records)
  • One inch of snow measured on the top of a car at 0645 by neighbor Gordon Furbish. This is the first snow in April since 1996 Previous record was 0.9 inches recorded in 1990.
  • The mean temperature was just a little below average as the max. was 64.4° a dep. of -1.3° but the ave. minimum was 45.2° a dep. of +0.7°.
  • The cloudy days were cooler and the cloudy nights a little warmer thus a small daily temp range of 19.2° which was the least since 1987
  • The 43mph wind on the 9th was the highest wind gust recorded here in April since 1997 when the April record gust of 45 mph was recorded
May
  • May was a little on the warm side with 1/3 of the month being well above the ave. temp. Rain departure was - 0.91 inches.
  • The rain was a little below ave. but was evenly spread out over the month making the amount seem more than recorded amount.
  • The average Max. temp. was 78.1° which was about 3° above the average and the highest since May 1991
  • There were 14 days that the maximum temp. was equal to or greater than 85° which was the most since 1991
  • The average Mean temp. was 67.4° which was the second highest since May 1991
  • The worst storm came on the 10th with many lightning flashes and a short period of hail up to 3/8 inch in diameter.
  • The 36mph wind on the 10th was the highest wind recorded in month of May since 1993.
June
  • Wet June---second wettest in 20 yrs only 1998 was wetter & the mean temp. 74.83 was a little +1.53° above ave.
  • The tot. precip. for June was 6.24 inches which was 3.00 inches above the average and there were 16 days with rain in June a new 20 yr record-old record was in 1982 with 15 days.
  • The average min. was over +2° above average and the average maximum was less than + 0.5° above average. This has been a trend at this location over the past few years that the minimum departures are more on the plus side or more simply the nights tend to be warmer.
  • We had 55° as the lowest minimum temp. which was the highest low minimum since 1989 which is the 20 year record.
  • There was also very little variation in the barometric pressure during June from the highest pressure at 30.26 to the lowest pressure of 29.80. There was only 0.46 inches variation in pressure - this is the least in June since 1991
  • June 2, 2000 Heavy thunderstorm with 1.01 inches of rain and hail up to 0.5 inches in diameter but most of the hail was 0.3 inches in diameter.
  • June 2, 2000 The hail occurred between 1727 to 1731.
  • June 2, 2000 The maximum precipitation rate was 0.26 inches in a five minute period.
  • June 11, 2000 The maximum temperature of 95° was the highest since 8-17-1999 and was highest maximum temperature for the date since 1984.

  • June 15, 2000 Thunderstorm gave 0.67 inches of rain and a wind gust to 33 mph at 1942 hours. The rainfall intensity --Five minute period was 0.15 inches and in one hour 0.55 inches.
  • June 17, 2000 Between 1345 and 1440 1.08 inches of rain fell the most intense rain was at 1415. The maximum rain intensity was 1.08 inches in one hour and 0.19 inches in five minutes.
  • June 17, 2000 The second period of rain was from 1815 to 2200 another 0.38 inches of rain fell the most intense rain occurred around 2100. The maximum rain intensity was 0.19 inches in one hour and 0.02 inches in five minutes. The total rain for the day was 1.46 inches the most in a calendar day since April 17, 2000 when 2.20 inches of rain fell.
July
  • July was the coolest on record here and the second wettest July with 6.73 inches departure was +2.62 inches. The wettest July here was in 1992 with 6.97 inches.
  • The average maximum temperature was 83.1° with a departure of -4.4°.
  • The average minimum temperature was 65.6° with a departure of -2.9°.
  • The average mean temperature was 74.4° with a departure of -3.7°. The mean temp. for June was +0.4° higher than July's.
  • We had only 4 days with temperatures of equal to or greater than 90° which set a new record. The previous record was 5 set in 1984.
  • Highest maximum temperature for July was 91° on the 3rd and 18th which was the lowest July maximum temperature on record. The old record was 93° (records since 1980).
  • This July was the cloudiest since 1994 which had 17 days with rain. We had 12 days with rain this July the most since 1996.
  • The 2.10 inches of rain on the 28th was the most rain in a calendar day for July since 1981 when a record of 3.25 inches fell.
  • The 1.74 inches recorded on the 28th was a new one hour rainfall intensity record for any month (records since 1990).
  • The average daily temperature range was 17.6° the least since 1996 and the maximum range for any day was 25° on the 2nd the least range in a July month since 1987.
  • The max. wind for the month was 30 mph at 1740 from the WNW on the 10th in a thunderstorm.
  • July 2, 2000 Thundershower with heavy rain at 2030 with a maximum intensity of 0.21 inches in five minutes.
  • Total rain for the day was 0.83 inches in two periods-- 2015-2100 , 2145-2250.
  • July14, 2000 Slow moving thunderstorm between 1700 and 1810 gave 0.51 inches with a maximum intensity of 0.21 inches in 15 minutes.
  • The second slow moving thunderstorm between 2220 and 0135 of the 15th gave much lightning and 1.54 inches rainfall with the maximum rainfall intensity of 0.82 inches in 15 minutes and 0.30 inches in 5 minutes around 2300.
  • Total rain recorded for the 14th was 1.95 inches and 0.10 inches on the 15th.
  • July 28, 2000 Total rainfall in this storm was 2.10 inches. The most rain in one day since April 17, 2000. Maximum one hour intensity 1.74 inches set a new one hour rainfall intensity record for any month (records since 1990). Maximum five minute intensity was 0.32 inches.

August
  • August was wetter and cooler than average which is also the story of this summer.
  • The total rainfall for August was 4.22 inches which was +0.98 departure from the average.
  • The mean temp. was 73.8° a departure of -1.5°.
  • It was the coolest August since 1996 and the seventh wettest here in the last 20 years with 8 days with thundershowers or thunderstorms.
  • August had only 3 days of 90° or more the least since 1996 with an average maximum temperature being the lowest since 1992.
  • The high humidity and cloudy nights gave August the lowest average temperature range of 15.1° in the last 20 years; the old record was 16.3 in 1989.
  • It was the cloudiest August in the records of this station that have been kept for sky cover for the last 15 years.
  • August had 13 days with measureable precipitation the most since 1994.
  • The average minimum relative humidity was the highest since 1990.
  • The highest barometic pressure was 30.38 inches the most since 1986 with 1992 being close with 30.37 inches.
September
  • September was again cooler and wetter than average for the third month in a row. The mean temp.was 65.7° dep. -2.1°
  • The total precip. for September was 4.67 inches a dep. of +0.50 inches. but last year's 11.33 inches of rain for September has skewed the ave.
  • We only had 7 days with rain, which is the least since 1994 but it was the third cloudiest September in the last 15 years.
  • Only four days of September in the last 15 years has recorded more rain on any one-day than on the 25th.
  • On September 26th Bob Ryan reported the lowest maximum temperature ever recorded for the date at National Airport.
  • It is interesting that September 1st was the warmest night (HIGHEST MIN.)of the summer here.-- UNUSUAL
  • The 26th was the coolest day (LOWEST MAX.) ever recorded here in September in the last 20 years!
  • The maximum temp. here on the 26th was 52°. The old record was 53° which was set in September 1994.
  • The 44° min. of the 29th was lowest temperature recorded in September since 1991.
  • The min. temperature of =< 50° occurred on ten days. That is the greatest number in September since 1991.
  • The high barometer of 30.46 inches of mercury was the highest recorded in September since 1991.
October
  • EXTREMELY DRY OCTOBER A NEW RECORD LOW PRECIPITATION AMOUNT (0.06) NOT JUST FOR OCTOBER BUT ALL MONTHS (RECORDS SINCE 1979)
  • It was also the warmest October since 1995. The mean temperature was 57.68° a +2.36° departure the 80° max. temperature on the 3rd and 4th was the third highest October temperatures recorded in the last ten years.
  • The average daily temperature range was 17.81° which was the highest since 1991 due to the clear month. This station had only two days with measurable rainfall- the average is eight and was the clearest October since 1991.
  • The 30.66 inch barometric pressure recorded on the 23rd was the highest recorded in October since 1986 the lowest bar. reading for the month was 29.82 inches which was the highest minimum pressure recorded since 1984.
  • October 23, 2000 The high barometric pressure today was 30.66 inches which was the highest at this station since 1-29-2000 when it was also 30.66 inches.
  • The controlling weather feature was high pressures for 18 days of the month.
  • The maximum wind during the month was 24 mph on the 29th which was the lowest max. wind for October since 1994.
  • October 08, 2000 Min. temperature was 36.4° lowest min. for the date in more than 14 years. Also the coolest morning since April 13, 2000 when it was also 36°.
November
  • November was very dry and a little on the cool side -- It was the fourth driest November in the last twenty-one years.
  • Last November was warm with 16 days of = > 60° maximum temperatures. This year November had only seven.
  • The mean temperature was -1.9° below the average and the lowest since 1997 for November.
  • On November 20th we had a short period of mixed rain & snow -- Snow in November has only occurred 7 times in the last 22 years.
  • On the 20th we had an extremely heavy frost because of a morning fog that added moisture to the frost.
  • One near lightning strike occurred at about 1800 on the 29th but still little rain with the event- the dry fall continues.
  • The sky was just a little clearer than average for the month.
  • November 6, 2000
    The first light frost of the fall at this station.( minimum temperature 32.8° ) This was the lowest minimum since April 9th, 2000 when the minimum was 32°.

  • The first really killing frost occurred.
  • November 9, 2000
    Rainfall today was 0.10 inches. The first measurable rain today in 23 days since ( October 17th when 0.01 was recorded).
  • Only 0.06 inches rain recorded in the last 44 days before today's 0.10 inches
  • November 24, 2000
    The minimum temperature was 22.2° the lowest minimum since February 13th, 2000 when the minimum was 22.1°. The 22° min. on the 24th was the lowest in November since 1996.
December
  • This Dec. had a dep. of -8.2°F the coldest since Dec. 89 which was the coldest month for any month in more than twenty years.
  • The total precip. was 2.34 inches, a dep. of -0.89 inches. There were only six days with precip., the least days since 1988.
  • The highest December maximum temperature was 57°F, which was the lowest December maximum temperature since 1989.
  • The highest December minimum temperature was only 33°F, which was the lowest for December since 1989 a dep. of -14.0°F.
  • The 12°F minimum temperature on December 23rd was the lowest December temperature since 1989.
  • This December had 30 days with the minimum temperature <= 32°F. The record is 31 days set in December 1989.
  • The 3.8 inches of snow in December was the most since 1993 (then 5.2 inches).
  • The 46 mph wind on December 12th from the WNW at 0828 was the highest in December since 1993 (then 47mph).
  • The 30.73 inch barometric pressure on December 13th was the highest December pressure since 1993 (then 30.80 inches).
  • December 14,   2000 -- GLAZE
    At 0700 today the maximum amount of ice was recorded 0.1 inches. Total precip. was 0.86 inches from 1935 on the 13th to 0700 on the 14th. The temperature during this period ranged between 29.6°F and 32°F. This was the first winter weather event of the fall season here.
  • December 17,   2000 -- Heavy Rain
    A very strong low pressure passes to our NW giving a quick pressure fall to 29.46 inches. Total precip. was 1.20 inches from 0500 on the 16th to 0730 on the 17th. The precip. during much of the 16th was drizzle.Heavy rain fell from 0300 to 0730 of the 17th accompanied with lightning. Very rare to get greater than 3 hours of frequent lightning on a December morning. Longest period of lightning that I can recall on a winter's morning. The most precip. since September 25, 2000.
  • December 19,   2000 -- SNOW
    The snow started around 1145 and ended at 2245. The total accumulation was 3.8 inches. The amount of moisture in the snow was lower than experected. The melted amount was 0.23 inches. The ratio was about 16.5:1. It was the most snow since 1-25-2000 when we had 10.8 inches.

  • December 25,   2000 -- Christmas Solar Eclipse
